Fine line tattooing is distinguished by straight or curved lines that are very thin and no use of gradations in shade or color. These tattoos emphasize form and outline over colour, shading, and texture giving them incredible levels of detail built in. However, areas of solid pigment and dots can also be used in addition to lines.

Must be 18 years of age to get a fine line tattoo without parental consent.

Application Technique

This tattooing style is done by using round liner needles, such as the three round liner which has three needle tips. That’s why you experience less pain than you would getting a traditional tattoo that involves thicker, bolder lines. More precise needling also gives people more options in design. Unlike colour tattoos, where the skin needs to be penetrated deeper and longer in order to fully absorb the colour. Fine line tattoos cause less stress on your body and therefore also takes less time to heal.

After Care

Remove covering bandages approximately 2-3 hours from your appointment. After removing the bandage, wash the tattoo with warm soapy water. Apply a layer of unscented lotion or moisturizer. Avoid covering the tattoo as it is best to let the tattoo heal in the natural air (unless you are going to be outdoors). Continue to wash and moisturize your tattoo 2-3 times daily for approximately two weeks. If your tattoo becomes itchy, do not itch! This is a normal part of the healing process. Avoid the sun, chlorine, salt water and soaking the tattoo for at least two weeks. If a scab forms, do not pick or scratch as you can damage the tattoo. We recommend that you have a bite to eat beforehand and stay hydrated. It’s ideal not to consume alcohol prior to or the night before your appointment as alcohol can increase bleeding and increase dehydration. Having the tattoo area ‘hair-free’ before the appointment as well is always appreciated. It takes up to two weeks for the tattoo to ‘heal’. However, it takes months for the skin to completely recover.
